Heifer International
Since 1944, Heifer International (formerly Heifer Project) has helped more than four million poor families throughout the world become self-reliant through the gift of food- and income-producing animals, and training in their care.
The Medina United Methodist Church has generously given to Heifer each Christmas Season for several years. Through your individual donations, the past four years alone you have raised nearly $17,000...we thank you!
Our support helps supply over 26 types of animals and crops to farm families in 47 countries, including the United States. Heifer screens candidates and trains them in agriculture and animal care so they can lift themselves out of poverty and become self-reliant. Milk, eggs, wool, meat, draft power and other benefits of animals provide nutrition and income for education, housing, health care and small business enterprises.
In exchange for this support, recipients agree to share one or more offspring of their animals with others in need through a requirement called “Passing on the Gift.” Those others then make the same promise, and so on, creating a continuous “living chain” from your one original gift.
Heifer International has been widely recognized as a solid, sound charity throughout the years (Forbes’ Magazine Top Ten). Its grass roots methods of instilling self-reliance and cooperation are powerful tools for fighting poverty, fostering democracy, and promoting peace throughout the world.
The MUMC Missions Ministry Team accepts donations each December Sunday in the Gathering Area. Gift cards are available for gifts made in honor of a loved one or friend.
