Meals on Wheels (M.O.W.) is a service that provides and delivers meals and good cheer to homebound and/or disabled city residents who cannot shop or cook for themselves. In Medina, this program is funded by United Way and other local churches.
For several years the Medina United Methodist Church has provided volunteer drivers to deliver meals throughout the city. Working in rotation with Welcome Wagon and other churches, we are called to serve each month of September.
How can I help? Volunteers give 40 minutes to an hour of their day to bring a hot lunch and warm greeting to neighbors in need. Meal packs are prepared daily by Samaritan Care Center on East Washington Street. Drivers simply pick up the meals at 11 a.m. and follow the route directions included.
We thank our MUMC friends who have served faithfully year in and out to this project (too many to name here) – but our hope is to also bring new faces and more energy to this effort!
How do I sign up? The MUMC Missions Ministry Team recruits September drivers with a sign-up calendar in the Gathering Area by the sanctuary each sunday in August.
If you know someone in need of receiving meals, please contact the Medina County Office of Older Adults at 330 723-9514 for eligibility, cost and other information. There is no age restriction, no financial eligibility requirements – only that they live within Medina City limits and cannot shop or cook for themselves (other meal assistance for county residents is also available at this office).
