THOM & CHRIS DENMAN, DIRECTORS

The Denman’s are lay missionaries at the Joy Center, an outreach center of The Red Bird Missionary Conference. MUMC has supported the Denman’s in a Covenant Relationship for 20 years. Over these 20 years the support has grown as our Church as grown.

We are currently contributing $2,500 per year toward the Denman’s support. The Joy Center has grown from 5 - 7 children in Sunday School programs held in an abandoned two room school house to approximately 100 adults and youth in a new Sanctuary and Educational building. Some of the activities supported by the Joy Center include camping for all ages at Camp O’Cumberland, a greenhouse program selling 12,000 to 15,000 plants per year as a fund raising project for the Youth VIM trips and also fun days. The youth give 10% of all profits to the Lord and use the rest in mission projects and recreational activities. The Joy Center constructed their new Sanctuary/Education facility four years ago with much of their own labor. They celebrated the burning of their mortgage last Fall (2003) with a special service of Thanksgiving and sumptuous dinner for the congregation and guests. As a purpose driven congregation, we are all contributing to the Christian outreach of the Joy Center.

For additional information and the many ways you can be in mission to this vital project growing a Christian Community in the heart of Appalachia, please contact: Wil Geiss at (330) 625-3964.
