Dates for our service in 2006: January 21 and 22, April 1 and 2, June 17 and 18, September 9 and 10, and November 25 and 26. Volunteers for overnight hosts (at Chatham Community Church), and dinner providers are always appreciated.
Medina United Methodist Church has been involved with Operation: HOMES since its formation in 1996 when we maintained the Day Center in what is now our Youth Center.
Historically, we have supported this organization with funds (from $300 to $500 per year) and volunteers who cook meals and stay overnight to supervise our guests.
A group of 14 churches and several community organizations work together to provide overnight shelter for homeless families and individuals. In addition, dinner and breakfast are provided by members of the host churches. A sandwich and fruit are provided for each guest to take with them to work or to the Day Center. The Day Center is presently at St. Matthew Lutheran Church. The Day Center has showers, laundry facilities and most important...telephones which can be used to call various companies in pursuit of employment. They eventually would like to have a computer available to aid in job searches. However, that is down the road. During 2003 approximately 49 adults and 7 children were provided shelter and meals.
Tanya Rodgers is in charge of securing volunteers from MUMC to cook meals and stay overnight. Alice Kendall represents MUMC on the Board. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Tanya at (330) 722-1796 or Alice at (330) 239-2412 or via email: kendallai@WMconnect.com.
Please call! This is a great local missions opportunity.
